Melaten — Where Cologne Lives Forever

Melaten is not just a cemetery, Melaten is city history, art history, landscape protection area, cultural space and oasis in the middle of the city. Before Melaten became a cemetery over 200 years ago, it was already a place of execution and leprosy station far outside the city. Today, the cemetery is the final resting place for many people of Cologne; there are around 55,000 graves here. And since we live in Cologne, this is of course also the place for many stories and anecdotes. Accompany us to this special place in Cologne's past and present.
