Carnival on Melaten

Cologne is inconceivable without carnival and so you can of course also meet Fastelovend and people who have had a particular influence on the so-called fifth season at Melaten, this wonderful cemetery over 200 years old.
From the founding fathers to well-known officials, musicians and superstars on the scene, numerous representatives of the carnival have found their final resting place here. We visit around 30 graves, from Willi Ostermann to Marie-Luise Nikuta or even Karl Küpper, who was forgotten because of his resistance against the National Socialists. Hear the stories of the carnivalists and learn that laughing and crying are often very close together
